IT'S FRIDAY! SOME FUN ONLINE TESTS TO TAKE Because everyone wants to hear more about themselves... (1.) This test will tell you whether you're more right or left brain oriented and also whether you're more visual or auditory (2.) This one tests for temperment and aesthetic preferences (3.) Find out what kind of blogger you are ( Found on Corante.com) Damage Control Tactics for the Awful FCC Media Ownership Ruling I don't know how successful this is going to be, but I like McCain's proposal the best:"In tightening its radio ownership rules, the FCC decided that companies already exceeding the new limits would be permitted to keep their stations. Committee Chairman Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) sought to undo that provision by adding an amendment to Stevens's bill that would force radio companies to sell stations until they comply with the new limits." The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee adopted a bill sponsored by Sens. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and Ernest F. Hollings (D-S.C.) that would prevent newspapers from owning television and radio stations in the same city, halt broadcast networks from buying more television stations at the local and national levels and force radio companies to divest some of their stations. The bill's prospects in the Senate and House, however, remain uncertain. Unfair Tariffs on South Korea? In each case, the imposed tariffs were based on allegations that the South Korean government had unfairly subsidized Hynix. The company, which has lost more than $7.5 billion over the last four years, is controlled by its creditors, including several banks that are largely state-owned. Competitors like Micron Technologies, an American company that at one point came close to buying Hynix's main assets, and Infineon Technologies of Germany have complained that the bailouts, loans and loan guarantees provided or arranged by the state-owned banks amounted to subsidies that violated trade treaties.

JZip: Senator Hatch Introduces Bill to Burn People’s Eyes Out "Jack Valenti, head of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), welcomed the announcement. “For too long, our valuable intellectual property, such as Encino Man, Citizen Kane and Girls Gone Wild on Geek Cruises, has been stolen. When you watch a video at your neighbor’s house that your neighbor rented, you are nothing but a thief who deserves to have his--or her--eyeball fluid pour down your cheeks like the crododile tears you shed for the plight of impoverished Hollywood executives. We know who you are, you thieves, all 157,872,548 of you in the United States alone--and we’re going to burn your eyes out!”"

Yahoo! News - 'Amelie' Director, Star Reunite for WWI Romance Jeunet is my very favorite director. Hopefully, this movie will be as wonderful as his others have been.... "French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, whose film "Amelie" was the highest-grossing French-language movie in recent history, is to handle one of the biggest budgets ever for a Gallic picture with his follow-up, the romantic drama "Un Long Dimanche de Fiancailles" (A Very Long Engagement). Set against the backdrop of World War I, "Un Long Dimanche" follows the quest of a young woman, Mathilde, who refuses to believe her fiance died in a bizarre incident in no man's land and is trying to find out the truth. The movie reunites Jeunet with "Amelie" star Audrey Tautou. Other cast members are due to be announced in the coming weeks, with shooting scheduled to start Aug. 4 in locations around France"

Smart Mobs Take Manhattan "You are invited to take part in MOB, the project that creates an inexplicable mob of people in New York City for ten minutes or less. Please forward this to other people you know who might like to join. At the very least, please forward this to all those to whom you sent the invitation for MOB #1, because someone seems to have gotten the wrong impression about the MOB. I am thinking, in particular, of whoever saw it necessary to tell the store and/or the police department about MOB #1, causing SIX POLICE OFFICERS AND A PADDYWAGON to be sent out to disrupt it. Let us call this person "Squealy."" Malkovich to Star in Kubrick Caper "John Malkovich has signed to star in the comedy "Color Me Kubrick," the true story of a man who conned his way into London's high life by pretending to be reclusive director Stanley Kubrick. The script was written by the late director's longtime personal assistant, Anthony Frewin. Brian Cook, a Kubrick crew member on "Eyes Wide Shut" will direct the $1.1 million feature, which is being backed by Hamburg's film board. " Yahoo! News - Drug Turns Crime Victims Into Zombies A story about scopolomine, which occurs all over the world. Around here, the plant that produces scopolamine-type chemicals is called Angel Trumpet. "The tree which naturally produces scopolamine grows wild around the capital and is so famous in the countryside that mothers warn their children not to fall asleep below its yellow and white flowers. The tree is popularly known as the "borrachero," or "get-you-drunk," and the pollen alone is said to conjure up strange dreams. "We probably should put some sort of fence up," jokes biologist Gustavo Morales at Bogota's botanical gardens, eyeing children playing with borrachero seeds everywhere."

Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | Fast forward into trouble "In June 1999, Bhutan became the last nation in the world to turn on television. The Dragon King had lifted a ban on the small screen as part of a radical plan to modernise his country, and those who could afford the £4-a-month subscription signed up in their thousands to a cable service that provided 46 channels of round-the-clock entertainment, much of it from Rupert Murdoch's Star TV network. Four years on, those same subscribers are beginning to accuse television of smothering their unique culture, of promoting a world that is incompatible with their own, and of threatening to destroy an idyll where time has stood still for half a millennium." |
