U.S. Biological Weapons- This Program Brought to You By The Pentagon

Mr Dando believes Washington's motive for torpedoing the deal, which had the support of its allies, was to maintain secrecy over US research work on biological weapons. He said that work includes:

· CIA efforts to copy a Soviet cluster bomb designed to disperse
biological weapons

· A project by the Pentagon to build a bio-weapon plant from
commercially available materials to prove that terrorists could do
the same thing

· Research by the Defence Intelligence Agency into the
possibility of genetically engineering a new strain of
antibiotic-resistant anthrax

· A programme to produce dried and weaponised anthrax
spores, officially for testing US bio-defences, but far more
spores were allegedly produced than necessary for such
purposes and it is unclear whether they have been destroyed or
simply stored.

But it's all in the name of defense,right? My feeling is: Beware of ANYTHING funded by the Pentagon.

But what really caught my eye was some of the other stuff in the article:

"Together with Jimmy Cauty he then formed The Justified Ancients of Mu-Mu. The group recorded under several names, most notably the KLF (Kopyright Liberation Front), and had a number of hits, including "What Time is Love?", "3am Eternal" and "It's Grim Up North".

As well as burning [1 million pounds (!)] -- "my kids have never forgiven me," says Drummond -- the popstar duo also left a dead sheep outside a music awards ceremony. "

Black Boxes in Cars?

I must be living under a rock, but I was unaware that black boxes even existed in cars! Evidently,"Almost all vehicles built today have a "black box" recorder, a similar, simpler version of the flight data recorders found in airplanes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering a proposal to make the boxes, now optional for automakers, mandatory within a few years in all vehicles sold in the United States."

The article mentions different groups debating for the particulars of how this will be regulated into law. Perhaps I'm not alarmist enough, but I'm less concerned about what sort of usage the police can get out of this technology than I am of the insurance companies that can see the potential savings of this sort of technology. All of this makes me wonder: What kind of lobbying power do insurance companies have over at Capital Hill?
